 不建議在熱車狀態下查看機油標尺。因為發動機運行時，流動于各零部件之間的機油還沒有回流到油底殼，所以會導致機油標尺顯示的液面位置偏低。

相比之下，冷車時機油基本都聚集在油底殼里，各零部件之間和管道里殘留的機油較少，雖然這時查看的機油位置會偏高，但是準確度更高。
